What is the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service?
At Stifford Pharmacy, we are proud to offer the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service, designed to provide you with convenient access to contraceptive options. Our goal is to ensure that you have the information and support you need to make informed choices about your reproductive health.
The NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service allows individuals to obtain oral contraceptives directly from registered pharmacies without the need for a prescription from a GP. This service aims to enhance accessibility and provide a more convenient option for those seeking contraceptive care.
Key Features of the Service
Confidential Consultations
Our trained pharmacists offer private consultations to discuss your contraceptive needs and preferences. Your privacy is our priority, and all discussions are confidential.
No Prescription Charges
Accessing oral contraception through our pharmacy is free of prescription charges, making it easier for you to obtain the contraceptive method that suits you best.
Self-Referral Options
You do not need to be registered with a GP to use this service. You can self-refer or be referred by a healthcare provider.
Ongoing Supply
Our pharmacists will ensure that you receive an ongoing supply of your current oral contraceptive, provided it is clinically appropriate for you.

How Does the Service Work?
When you visit our pharmacy, our team will start by asking you a few preliminary questions to understand your needs. Following this, you will have a private consultation with a pharmacist in a designated consultation room, ensuring your privacy and comfort. During this consultation, the pharmacist will ask relevant health-related questions to assess your individual circumstances and determine the most suitable contraceptive options for you.
As part of the assessment, you may also have your blood pressure checked and your Body Mass Index (BMI) measured by a member of our team. Based on this information, our pharmacists will provide personalised advice and, when appropriate, supply you with the oral contraception that best meets your needs.
If a pharmacist is unavailable at the time of your visit, our team will be happy to schedule an appointment for you to return at a more convenient time. We are committed to ensuring you receive the care and support you need.
